As speculated, Virat Kohli has been rested for the Asia Cup which will take place in the UAE from September 15 to 28. Rohit Sharma will lead the side in Kohli's absence and will have Shikhar Dhawan, his opening partner, as the deputy.
Manish Pandey's timely return to the form during the quadrangular series, where he scored 306 runs in four games without getting dismissed, has earned him a recall. After proving their fitness, Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav have been picked in the 16-man squad in a bid to strengthen India's shaky middle-order while Suresh Raina has been shown the door following inconsistent performances in the last series.
Uncapped fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed, who impressed during the recently concluded quadrangular series, has received a maiden national call-up while Jasprit Bumrah has walked back in the ODI set up after successfully recovering from a thumb injury which forced him to sit out during the England ODI and T20I series. Umesh Yadav and Siddharth Kaul have made way for Ahmed and Bumrah.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged. India are set to play their first game on September 18 in Dubai.
